South Central Region

Description: highly dissected region of ridges and valleys that in some areas contains sharp ridges with very little upland. This area also abounds in karst features such as caves, disappearing streams, springs and cold streams. This area was never glaciated, and is also part of the Driftless Area - a portion of the Midwest that escaped glaciation in the last glacial period and so named for its lack of glacial drift, the material left behind by retreating glaciers. Soils of the region are derived from glacial materials. The region’s climate is favorable to agricultural row crop production. Prior to European settlement the region’s vegetation consisted of tallgrass prairie and oak savanna on ridgetops and dry upper slopes, and sugar maple-basswood-oak forest on stepper slopes and wet prairies along rivers and floodplains. Anerobic Digestion and Biogas

UW Extension have created seven modules focused on the use of anaerobic digestion technologies. Details of the process are introduced, as well as factors that influence start-up, operation and control of anaerobic digesters at different scales.
